LG has revealed a stretchable, foldable, and bendable screen that can increase in size by 50%. The company showcased a 12-inch prototype that can be extended by 6 inches to reach up to 18 inches.
The screen displays natural colors and operates at a resolution of 100 pixels per inch. Compared to typical smartphone screens, which usually have a resolution between 300 and 500 pixels per inch, it still falls short.
The screen utilizes micro-LEDs as a light source. In 2022, the company introduced a similar screen but with a 20% expansion ratio. This time, they’ve improved the screen’s durability and resolution.
This type of screen can be integrated into clothing, stretching and bending with movement without being damaged. LG Display, a subsidiary of LG, showcased a similar screen at Seoul Fashion Week in September, where it was incorporated into clothing designs.
The screen employs technologies similar to those found in contact lenses, allowing it to stretch, roll, and bend without being damaged.
Currently, this screen is still a prototype, and its integration into fashion is a noteworthy development that may open doors to unexpected applications. However, the company has not announced any concrete plans for its release.
